Situated between the two coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund lies the beautiful Long Beach - a place with a long history, starting when Walvis Bay was still a part of South Africa. It is, for the most part, an upscale beach resort where many have beach homes to escape the interior heat in Namibia.
The Long Beach resort can trace its origins back to when a need arose to lure more tourists to Walvis Bay. Construction on various amenities and infrastructure took place and soon after the completion of the various projects the resort was also zoned as a residential area.
Over the years the area developed more and more, with apartment buildings going up one after the other and today the town is a unique mix of modern and timeless buildings offering incredible views and a relaxed atmosphere.
The beach is sheltered from the prevailing southwest wind and storms by Pelican Point, a promontory behind which the harbour of Walvis Bay is situated. Long Beach has a gradual gradient into the surf and is safe for swimming.
Residents and tourists alike have the unique experience of being able to choose whether to enjoy the ocean that lies in front of them or head to the dunes at the back - thus creating a plethora of activities and experiences.
Long Beach also boasts with the Burning Shore Hotel, the hotel where Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stayed during the end of her pregnancy.
